Why SEO is Important: Improve your rank on google in 5 simple ways
By Bruce Klaic Sunday, March 6, 2022
Location, Location, Location
We all know the importance of location. Customers don't just fall into your lap, you have to go where they are and while in the past businesses vied over the best high traffic locations on the street, this has now evolved into a competition for the best location on the web/SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
Unfortunately, many businesses make this mistake of thinking that just because they have a website people will be able to find them on Google and it's true if your site is indexed by google you will be listed.... but where? If it's not page 1 (and let's be realistic without any SEO efforts it's extremely likely you are not) you are seriously missing out. Sure, if people know the name of your business and search you specifically, of course, you show up but what about your services and products. Try it now type into google search something you sell and would like to be found for and see on which page you show up.
It is a fact that only 0.78% of “googlers” click on page 2 of a search and that’s even less for page 3 and so on.
It’s a hard pill to swallow but the truth is if you are not on page one, you don’t exist. And you will have to spend a lot of budget on other channels whose results rely on consistent spending.
Search Engine optimization (SEO) is a long process, but it is a science -that’s why SEO Agencies like us exist – and in this blog post, we will discuss 5 simple steps that you can take today to start improving your rank on Google.
Find out Where you stand
The first step in improving your Google ranking is to find out where you currently stand. The easiest way to do this is by using a tool called Mozbar, which can be downloaded here for free from the Chrome web store.
Once installed on your browser, simply navigate to any website and click on Mozbar in your extensions Menu.
This will bring up some basic information about that site's domain authority (DA), page authority (PA), backlinks, and more! If you're not sure what these metrics mean or why they are important, check out their blog post explaining everything here: Domain Authority and Why is it Important. You'll want to use this same process when checking other websites such as Yelp listing pages, your competition, and any other websites that you consider to be in your niche.
Once you have a general idea of where you stand, it's time to start improving your rank! Here are five simple ways to get started:
Create valuable content.
This one is easier said than done, but it is essential if you want to improve your Google ranking. Not only do you need to create content that is interesting and helpful for your target audience, but it also needs to be high quality- no thin or keyword-stuffed articles here! To produce great content consistently, consider hiring a SEO Agency who can help you out.
Build backlinks.
Backlinks are an important factor in determining a website's rank on Google. A backlink is any link form an external domain that directs to your website. This will have a positive effect on your Domain Authority as Google will recognise a lot of sites are pointing to you as a resource. (WARNIING NOT ALL BACKLINKS ARE CREATED EQUAL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHERE AND HOW YOU GENERATE LINKS TO YOUR SITE TO AVOID BEING PENALISED BY SEARCH ENGINES) The more high-quality backlinks you have, the better! One easy way to get started is by guest blogging for other websites in your niche. Reach out to bloggers and ask if they would be interested in publishing a post from you or offer to write a guest post for their blog.
Publish Content regularly.
This one goes hand in hand with creating valuable content- if you want people to keep coming back to your website, you need to be publishing new content on a regular basis. At least once a week is ideal, but twice or even three times per week is even better! Use keywords strategically. Keywords are still an important part of SEO, and using them correctly can help improve your ranking on Google. When adding keywords to your content, be sure to use them naturally and avoid overusing them- this will help keep your content readable and interesting for your audience.
Optimize your website for mobile devices.
In recent years, there has been a major shift in how people are using the internet- more and more people are browsing the web from their phones and tablets instead of from their desktops or laptops. Because of this, it is now more important than ever to make sure that your website is optimized for mobile devices. One easy way to do this is by using a tool called Responsive Design Checker, which will test your website's responsiveness and give you feedback on how to improve it.
This is not meant to be an all encompassing HOW TO SEO GUIDE but we hope you have gotten value out of these tips and you should now see, there are a number of simple things that you can do to start improving your rank on Google.
Remember: SEO is a long game but the results are well worth it!
